HOW POWERFUL ARE THE FORCES OF HARMONY?
Love-hatred, harmony-disharmony, positive-negative, are merely a collection of emotions which are at the disposal of humanity to use as an individual likes. It's our thoughts which are powerful, wherever we decide to direct them. So the question should not be, How powerful are the forces of love and harmony?, it should be, Why would one choose to direct one's energies towards love and harmony? Why should the world focus exclusively on love-harmony emotions now, and let go of the destructive forces of hatred and disharmony?
First of all, as far as recorded history goes, the concept of 'love and harmony', as the governing force in a community, first surfaced in the world around two thousand, five hundred years ago. In that era, the denser emotions of fear-hate-disharmony-separateness reigned supreme, and the lighter emotions of love-harmony-respect-unity were peripheral, considered signs of weakness. Since then, we have vacillated between these powerful opposing forces, with the latter gradually gaining ground.
In a sense, life is just a series of dramas through which humanity discovers the heights of its creative powers and the depths of its destructive capabilities. We've been experimenting for god knows how long with these two forces. If we look simply at two archetypes of the last century, we can say that Hitler unconsciously orchestrated one of the biggest dramas to demonstrate the limits of achievable global hatred-disharmony, in other words, the destructive depths to which humanity could sink, at that time; while Gandhi consciously fuelled another big drama demonstrating the achievable limits of global love-harmony, in other words, the creative heights of consciousness humanity could reach, at that time.
The drama played out between the Soviet Union and its satellites, and the U.S.A. and its satellites, which brought us to the brink of a nuclear war in the mid-1980s, before ending in the dissolution of Communist Europe in 1989, set new limits on denser emotions, and established a broader arena for the lighter emotions.
The world as we know it was structured by people who by and large, were working primarily with denser emotions. So for lighter emotions to prevail, it stands to reason that many of these structures would have to disappear. This is not a call for revolution, merely a reality. As thought patterns change, so do their manifestations.
True, denser emotions still hold sway after all this time. So the question resurfaces: what is there to gain by promoting the lighter emotions? Answer: a new and improved playground. We have seen where denser emotions lead—to the destruction of humanity and the planet. So, the game is over. A new one must be started to keep our restive spirits interested in productive life on this planet. And that new game is: let's now see where a focus on light emotions will lead us.
